January 2010
Thermo Fisher Scientific offers UK scientists a wide range of Macherey Nagel products for nucleic acid purification, including the NucleoSpin Robot-96 Plasmid Kit for the rapid isolation of plasmid DNA in a 96-well plate format. The Molecular Biology Core Facility at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Manchester) has used the kit for the last six months to provide purified plasmid DNA for downstream applications such as sequencing, cloning and transfections.

"We provide a range of core services for research groups on site, including plasmid preparation," commented Stuart Pepper, head of the Molecular Biology Core Facility. "Our main reasons for switching to the Macherey Nagel NucleoSpin product were quality and yield. Plasmid preparation is a routine task for us, generally used for routine checking of clones during molecular biology projects. Using Nucleospin chemistry has given us a reliable product with improved quality of plasmid DNA extracts. The preparations we obtain are now of sufficient quality for transfections and the yield is also very good."
