The International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) has awarded Olusegun Olayemi the Elisabeth Pletscher Award. This award is given to an outstanding IFBLS Associate member for their continuous support of biomedical laboratory science through continuing education and other activities, and to promote the objectives of IFBLS.
Olusegun Olayemi is a biomedical scientist and a UK Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network (STEMNET) Ambassador. He has worked on activities to encourage students and young people to gain an interest in careers in STEM through fun and creative projects.
Olusegun regularly organises events to increase awareness in laboratory careers and engage future scientists in STEM careers, featuring different professions for students interested in biomedical sciences. Olusegun has also organised seminars for recent graduates and biomedical scientists to help them find their first job.
Olusegun said, “As a biomedical scientist, I have a strong passion for my profession, which drives me to volunteer my time and effort to promote biomedical science to young high school students in a range of original, creative, practical and engaging ways, both inside and outside of the classroom.”
At the end of August, the IFBLS President awarded Olusegun a plaque and certificate during the Awards Ceremony, as part of the 32nd IFBLS World Congress Opening Ceremony, held this year in Kobe, Japan. www.stemnet.org.uk/ambassadors/how-to-become-a-stem-ambassador
