Bio-StatÆs instrument of choice for urinalysis

Bio-Stat has placed a further two UF-100 instruments, one at St ThomasÆ Hospital, London, and the other at Torbay Hospital, bringing the total in the UK to 26.

The microbiology department at Torbay Hospital is the latest to enjoy the benefits of the UF-100. Pipetting had become an issue in the laboratory, so the UF-100 will save valuable staff time and relieve health and safety issues associated with repetitive strain injury (RSI). The UF-100 has introduced standardisation, reproducibility and speed to urine microscopy, with its proven ability to process 100 samples per hour. The accuracy of the UF-100 allows >50% or urines to be reported confidently as negative on the day of receipt, without the need for culture. This results in an improved service with real patient benefits, while reducing culture plate workload. In addition, the UF-100 can be operated by medical laboratory assistants, releasing biomedical scientists to carry out other duties.
