Unipath has announced the relaunch of the premium TestPack + Plus branded Strep A test, a rapid immunoassay for the qualitative detection of group A streptococcal antigen from throat swabs.

Re-engineered in-house and rebranded Inverness Medical (UnipathÆs parent company), TestPack + Plus Strep A benefits from a clear-cut positive/negative result, an in-built window that changes colour when the test is complete, and special OnBoard Controls (OBC) that provide added reassurance and test reliability. TestPack + Plus Strep A with OBC is a cassette/pallet-format test, based on the colloidal gold-linked immunosorbent assay principle. Once the specimen is added to the sample well, it migrates through the membrane. If group A streptococcal antigen is present in the specimen it forms a complex with the antibody-colloid. This continues to migrate and is captured by the group A streptococcal antibody in the results window, providing visual indication of the presence of antigen. In summary, the features of TestPack + Plus Strep A with OBC include easy interpretation, no need to time test, onboard controls and sensitivity and specificity of 97.6% and 98.4%, respectively.
