Food safety issues to be addressed at Docklands meeting

Leipziger Messe has announced æThe Food Science LaboratoryÆ, which completes the L.A.B. conference programme. The L.A.B. trade fair and conference will take place on 2û4 October at ExCel in LondonÆs Docklands.

It will showcase international manufacturers and provide industry professionals with the opportunity to discuss important issues in the food and beverage industry.

With the introduction of the 2004 European Union guidelines on the labelling of genetically modified (GM) ingredients, and concerns about diseases such as avian influenza and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), the need for comprehensive methods of food testing and analysis is becoming increasingly important.

‘The Food Science Laboratory’ session, chaired by Dr Paul Berryman, research director for Leatherhead Food International, will facilitate discussion of these issues.

A former public analyst, Paul Berryman has worked in the food testing industry for 27 years and will provide an insight into methods of testing, applications examples and process optimisation. ‘The Food Science Laboratory’ session takes place on 3 October.
