Multifunction standalone imaging control unit

Nikon Instruments has developed a new standalone imaging unit, the DS-L3, to complement its Digital Sight range of cameras. Offering synchronicity with a range of microscopes, the touch panel DS-L3 is a multifunctional space-saving unit with the ability to control a camera, as well as a microscope, and display images.

The improved operation makes the DS-L3 ideal for use with the Nikon Eclipse Ci-E and Ni- E to optimise all enhanced features. The DS-L3 is the first LCD touch panel to be adopted for use with a digital camera in microscopy, and features an intuitive 8.4 inch display. The user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) provides a menu format based on Nikon's simple Coolpix icons. The DS-L3 also allows the user to set the aperture, field diaphragm and light intensity, as well as parfocality on motorised microscopes.

High colour reproducibility and high-definition images are achieved by the improved image processing function. In combination with the new DS-Fi2 camera, the DS-L3 offers a frame rate of up to 21 fps, while Ethernet, USB 2.0 and PictBridge support provide flexible connectivity.
