Collaboration with biomedical experts in Liverpool

A specialist school in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle has joined forces with a Wirral business to prepare its students for the business roles of tomorrow. Liverpool Life Sciences UTC has collaborated with Pro-Lab Diagnostics to enhance its students’ skills and work-related learning experience while improving their employability within the science and healthcare sectors.

Pro-Lab Diagnostics, with its European office based in Bromborough, is a leader in the field of microbiology and clinical testing kits; working with hospital and veterinary laboratories across the UK and abroad. The highly specialist team is achieving solid growth and is committed to supporting science in local schools to ensure it can remain future-proof.

Pro-Lab staff spend an extensive amount of time working in an advisory capacity to help Liverpool Life Sciences UTC students understand and define the skills needed for a career within these sectors. The Bromborough-based company also works within the school to deliver expert masterclasses in molecular biology and pathology. Additionally, Pro-Lab offers practical workshops in diagnostic testing to explore conditions such as tuberculosis.

Placements at Pro-Lab, designed for Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, include working in the full range of departments including customer service, diagnostic testing, molecular biology and quality assurance. The placements have been carefully created to help students build their skills in a real working environment to support their applications to university, apprenticeships and employment.
