IBMS Honorary Librarian appointed

Michael Wren MBE FIBMS has been appointed by Council as the Institute’s new Honorary Librarian for a period of three years.The Honorary Librarian maintains the Institute’s Mercer Collection, a library housed at 12 Coldbath Square containing more than 1500 titles, including many rare first editions.

Mike was a practising biomedical scientist for 43 years before his retirement in 2010. He specialised in clinical microbiology and has published papers mostly on aspects of anaerobic bacteriology, has contributed chapters to books, and was co-author of the textbook Clinical Microbiology.

Mike was appointed a visiting professor to the University of Westminster and since his retirement has followed his interest in medical history.He is a member of the Medical Sciences Historical Society and recently joined the Institute’s History Committee. Mike received an MBE in 2007 for services to biomedical science.
