Rapid sepsis species identification assays

QuickFISH is a rapid molecular diagnostic platform, developed by AdvanDx, that is now available exclusively in the UK from Alpha Laboratories. It provides 20-minute species identification of bacteria directly from positive blood cultures. This enables clinicians to prescribe the correct antimicrobial therapy for patients with bloodstream infections much earlier, ensuring better patient outcome, reduced hospital stay and lower medical costs. These assays are based on PNA probe technology and fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH).

Alpha Laboratories now also supplies the CoolLED pE-300 white microscope illumination system that gives optimal fluorescence visibility with the slide-based QuickFISH assays. This safer alternative to a high-pressure mercury or metal-halide light source offers broad-spectrum light-emitting diode (LED) illumination for general use in fluorescence applications. With a comprehensive range of microscope adaptors, it can easily be fitted to most microscopes, providing a safe, convenient and economical illumination system that will last for many years without additional operating costs.
