Send in your laboratory glassware stories

Artist Cordelia Spalding is seeking stories about laboratory glassware items for a science/art installation piece entitled ‘Cupboard of Windows’. The installation aims to record moments of exploration, discovery, inspiration and disappointment that scientists have experienced when working with laboratory glassware. Cordelia is looking for observations and anecdotes about the different moments members have experienced using laboratory glassware.

Commenting on the importance of the project, Cordelia said: "Laboratory glassware is a universal tool that is used throughout scientific endeavours and discovery. It is a tangible link between science and art, with individual pieces still being hand blown by glass artists. Glassware is an unsung hero that can be used to tell the stories of scientists in new and engaging ways to those who may never get the chance to visit a laboratory or do their own experiments."

This is an opportunity to record the important contribution that laboratory glassware has made to the science community, and to share the importance of this with the wider public. If you would like to share your laboratory glassware stories, please send them by email to Cordelia using the address below. Contributions can be anonymous or include contact details.
