Rhodri Morgan joins biotechnology company

Rhodri Morgan has been appointed a director of an innovative stem cell research business developing medicines that could assist patients around the world. The former First Minister of Wales has joined Cell Therapy (CTL), which was founded by Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Martin Evans and biotechnology entrepreneur Ajan Reginald.

The company is developing unique new stem cell therapies in its laboratories in Swansea to combat life-threatening and life-altering illnesses such as heart attacks, heart disease and diabetes. Speaking of his appointment, Mr Morgan, who will chair the company’s audit committee and manage CTL’s government relations, said: "CTL is a great example of Welsh innovation and enterprise. It has the capability to become a global leader in regenerative medicines. I hope to be able to contribute to realising that vision. The potential benefits to patients and to the Welsh economy would be huge. Stem cell therapy is at the cutting edge of cardiovascular treatment, offering the potential to regenerate heart tissue immediately after a heart attack or repairing the myocardium after heart failure.
