BAC President speaks at Malaysian conference

British Association for Cytopathology President and IBMS Council member Allan Wilson recently travelled to Hong Kong and Malaysia to give talks to students and professionals in the fields of biomedical and laboratory science. Allan is Lead Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology and Advanced Practitioner in Cervical Cytology at Monklands Hospital, Airdrie, and an Honorary Fellow of The Royal College of Pathologists.

In Hong Kong, Allan spoke on ‘Recent Developments in Cellular Pathology’ to the Hong Kong branch of the IBMS. Subsequently, he travelled to Kuala Lumpur to present talks on benchmark reports and a cytology update at the 27th National Conference of the Malaysian Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MIMLS).

Allan also gave a Careers in Biomedical Science seminar in partnership with Associate Professor Dr Mohd Nazil Bin Salleh on 13 August. Dr Salleh is Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical and Health Sciences at the University of Selangor and the Institute’s first Chartered Scientist in Malaysia. This joint talk was aimed at students and professionals interested in careers in the field of biomedical science. The MIMLS conference programme included symposiums, plenary lectures, discussions and poster presentations on many disciplines within the fields of medical laboratory sciences.

The IBMS has international branches across the world including in Ireland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Cyprus and Gibraltar, and also collaborates with biomedical science professional bodies worldwide.
