He said: “Our experts have analysed the publicly available sequences of the Omicron variant and we are assured that our tests to confirm COVID-19 infection continue to be accurate and reliable.
“While the news of the new Omicron variant is worrying for many, it’s important to remember that, like SARS-CoV-2, many viruses mutate over time. Accurate testing is already helping to build an understanding of the spread of this variant and in the coming days and weeks will provide important information to help us steer the course of action most likely to mitigate its impact.”
