Partnership supporting improved UTI diagnosis

Una Health has announced a new partnership with Forte Medical to support the distribution of the Peezy urine collection device across the UK, strengthening efforts to improve urine sample quality and diagnostic accuracy within NHS care pathways.

Accurate urine sampling is a critical component of diagnosing and managing urinary tract infections (UTIs), yet contamination of midstream urine samples remains a persistent issue across primary care, community services and outpatient settings. Poor-quality samples contribute to diagnostic uncertainty, repeat testing, delays in appropriate treatment, and unnecessary antibiotic prescribing.

Peezy is a clinically designed urine collection device that helps reduce contamination at the point of collection, supporting more reliable test results without adding complexity to existing clinical workflows. The device is intended to be easily implemented across NHS settings where urine testing is routinely used.

Through this partnership, Una Health and Forte Medical aim to support NHS organisations seeking to improve the diagnosis and management of UTIs, an area of care that continues to place significant demand on primary care and laboratory services.

  • Improved first-time sample quality has the potential to:
  • Reduce false-positive results and inappropriate antibiotic use
  • Support antimicrobial stewardship objectives
  • Minimise repeat testing and associated system costs
  • Improve patient experience and confidence in diagnostic pathways.

These outcomes align with broader NHS priorities around diagnostic optimisation, workforce efficiency and reducing unwarranted variation in care.

Commenting on the partnership, Laura Cartwright, Director - Strategy and Marketing, at Una Health, said: “Collaborating with Forte Medical in its mission to improve the diagnosis and management of UTIs is part of a wider strategy to support the use of diagnostics to improve the health of women right across the UK. The management of UTIs is an area that has long been neglected, despite remaining a significant issue for women as a result of poor care and treatment.”

This partnership also reflects a commitment to supporting female-founded innovation in healthcare. Women’s health conditions, including UTIs, have historically received less attention in terms of targeted innovation, despite their prevalence and impact on quality of life and health system utilisation.

Female-led innovations often arise from direct experience of unmet clinical need, yet frequently face barriers to adoption at scale. By supporting the distribution of Peezy, Una Health aims to contribute to a more inclusive innovation ecosystem that delivers practical, evidence-based improvements in women’s health outcomes.

Una Health and Forte Medical will work collaboratively to support NHS stakeholders in evaluating and adopting Peezy where appropriate, as part of wider efforts to improve diagnostic quality and UTI management pathways.

The Peezy Midstream Urine Collection Device is available on NHS Supply Chain and direct in the UK and Northern Ireland from Una Health Ltd. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
