Interaction, exhibition and reflection: the biennial Congress experience

The Biomedical Science Congress is now less than 10 months away. More than just a scientific meeting, this complete experience demonstrates the vital importance of the close relationship between the commercial sector and the profession it supports.

The past two decades have witnessed much change in laboratory medicine and in the profession body that supports those who work in the field. The 1990s saw the end of the Institute’s Triennial meeting format and the birth of the biennial Congress and its association with the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham. In the intervening years, Congress has become the flagship IBMS event and continues to demonstrate what working together can achieve.

The principal content of the Biomedical Science Congress is the scientific programme, which will give delegates access to the very latest developments. However, no matter how important the scientific and professional content, it is superbly supported by a top-class exhibition that displays all the instruments, equipment, technologies and techniques that put biomedical science practice into context. The exhibition will also provide an opportunity to earn CPD points through reflective practice.

Congress exhibition
The Congress exhibition plays a vital role in the total experience as it combines business, networking and social exchange. As the exhibition comprises the free circulation area of the event, it is the place where delegates view the latest equipment, discuss methodologies and enhance their knowledge of what is available commercially. It is also the place to take coffee, lunch tea breaks and generally discuss the issues of the day with friends, colleagues and peers.
