Two high-speed HbA1c analysers launched in the UK

ARKRAY, the diabetes testing innovator, marks its UK debut into the clinical diagnostics market with the launch of two high-speed HbA1c analysers targeting the clinical laboratory and point-of-care (POC) environment.

The ADAMS A1c HA-8190V analyser (pictured) is designed to support workflow in the clinical laboratory, able to deliver test results within 24 seconds (Fast mode) and 58 seconds (Variant mode). The Lab 001 is the fastest point-of-care HbA1c analyser of its kind.

The Japanese company has been a global leader in diabetes solutions for more than 60 years. In the UK and mainland Europe, its products had previously only been available through a distributor. From November 2021, ARKRAY products are now being marketed and supported directly to customers.

The ADAMS A1c, HA-8190V is ARKRAY’s latest glycohaemoglobin (HbA1c) analyser based on HPLC technology. It detects and separates variant haemoglobin automatically and can run in dual modes to optimise workflow through the laboratory. ARKRAY’s complete range of diabetes testing solutions include compact, standalone systems to larger high performance HLPC platforms able to integrate into the automation tracks of NHS pathology networks.

Aimed at the expanding point-of-care market, The Lab 001 uses capillary electrophoresis technology delivering results within 90 seconds from a fingerpick of blood.  It delivers accurate, laboratory equivalent HbA1c results even in the presence of sickle cell anaemia, raised HbF and other variants that could interfere with an accurate interpretation.

In 1979, ARKRAY developed the first HPLC HbA1c fractionation analyser (the HA-8110) suitable for quantitative analysis in the clinical laboratory. UK general manager David Eyre commented: “ARKRAY continues to be proud to lead with new innovative laboratory and POC products in the field of diabetes care.

“Many NHS laboratories already rely heavily on instruments underpinned by our technology to streamline their workflow. However, because we had previously been sold through a distributor, the ARKRAY name may not always be immediately recognised. In fact, the company has an impressive heritage, known for its blend of scientific excellence, precision and superb product performance.”
