RCPath launches 2024 Achievement Awards

The Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) has launched the 2024 edition of its Achievement Awards, with a new category recognising sustainability added this year.

The RCPath Achievement Awards were inaugurated to celebrate excellence in pathology practice and promote high standards in pathology education, training and research to deliver the best patient care. These awards complement the College’s other schemes that celebrate public engagement and research.

The 2024 Achievement Awards will celebrate excellence in pathology service provision through teamwork. This year the College's awards panel have introduced a new category - Sustainability.

Four team awards will be given to teams who have achieved above and beyond what would be expected in their usual course of their work. For example, quality improvement activities, setting up new services, innovation in service delivery, reaching new patient groups, or educating and training staff and students.

For the new Sustainability award the awards panel are looking for innovative solutions for pathology services that have saved carbon (or carbon equivalents) with a quantification, that would be beneficial to be shared with the wider pathology community. In particular the panel will be looking for pioneering evidence and not just making incremental steps to becoming more sustainable. Evidence should include actions have been taken over and above the normal requirements of the team’s work. Applications must provide evidence of impact, and of good leadership/championing practice in engaging and inspiring others.

Dr Bernie Croal, RCPath President, commented: “Every day thousands of College members work to the highest standards in pathology education, training and research to deliver the best patient care. The RCPath Achievement Awards 2024 are your opportunity to nominate a pathology team and celebrate excellence in pathology practice.”

Teams can nominate themselves but only College members can nominate. For the full set of criteria and the nomination form, please visit RCPath Achievement Awards 2024.

The closing date for nominations is Monday 15 April. The awards will be presented to two members from the winning teams at the College's Annual Dinner on 20 June.
