IBMS Congress 2025: Linking learning to the laboratory

The countdown is on, with the 2025 IBMS Congress set to open its doors on 22 September. Here IBMS Vice President Sarah May presents a roundup of the key features of this year’s event.

Congress is continuing to grow. The 2025 Congress programme was launched on 1 February, and we are taking record numbers of bookings from delegates wishing to take advantage of the early booking discounts (available until 30 June).

Since the initial launch we have been adding new content. Once again, we are delighted to welcome the Association for Laboratory Medicine (ALM) to our Thursday lecture programme. Building on the success of its 2023 Leaders’ Summit that the Association held as a special feature within Congress, the ALM is once again hosting a full day of lectures at Congress on 25 September. For details of the ALM Leaders’ Summit, look no further than the Congress website at www.ibms.org/congress. ALM members can book to attend and enjoy the benefits of the member discount rates and IBMS members are also welcome to book to attend this session within Congress. We believe that choice and collaboration is key to the success of Congress.

One of the most popular lecture programmes is always the Laboratory Management programme, which will take place on Wednesday. As usual we have devised a full day of lectures that will address some of the key issues that impact on all those with a leadership or management role. A comment that we have received in feedback from delegates is that they would welcome more time to explore some of the key topics covered by this programme. In response to this feedback, we have taken three of the topics from the Wednesday programme and will be exploring them in greater depth during three interactive workshops on the following day. The subjects that these workshops will be covering in more depth are: ‘Managing wellbeing – your own and others’; ‘How to ensure inclusivity in a multi-diverse workforce’; and ‘Professional curiosity: a statutory obligation that could save a life’.
