Temperature control for HPLC columns

Torrey Pines Scientific has announced its new EchoTherm HPLC Column Oven Model CO20. The temperature range is from room temperature to 90°C readable and settable to 0.1°C. The PID temperature control software regulates temperatures to ±0.1°C. Temperature accuracy and stability are ±0.1°C with a stable temperature indicator lamp on the front panel that lights when the target temperature is stable to within ±0.2°C.

Advanced onboard automation for Syrris Atlas HD reactors

Syrris has upgraded the touchscreen firmware for its Atlas HD jacketed reactor systems to offer many of the advanced automation features previously only available using the system’s PC-based control software. These enhanced automation options – such as pH-controlled and temperature-dependent dosing – add to the system’s existing functionality to offer even greater flexibility in protocol design.

Environmentally friendly ductless fume hoods

The Purair ECO Series ductless fume hoods are designed to protect the user and the environment from hazardous vapours generated on the work surface. Central to the ECO Series design is the innovative Air Science Multiplex Filtration Technology and the exclusive EFT Enhanced Filtration Technology developed to assure universal protection in the work environment over the widest range of applications.

Targeting winter illness testing

R-Biopharm Rhone offers a variety of product technologies including rapid tests for pathogen detection, ELISAs and PCR assays covering respiratory, enteric, STI, transplant and microbiome targets. All assays are CE/IVD marked for clinical diagnostics use.

VERIGENE II: coming soon to Luminex

VERIGENE II is a sample-to-answer system designed for Flex testing. Luminex will be showcasing the system on its stand at next month’s IBMS Congress in Birmingham.

Compact anaerobic workstation

Don Whitley Scientific will introduce its most compact workstation yet, the Whitley A25 Anaerobic Workstation, on Stand 421 at the IBMS Congress. Small but perfectly formed, the A25 can accommodate over 200 Petri dishes. Featuring patented Instant Access Ports and an integral airlock, this workstation can also be fitted with the Whitley Anaerobic Conditions Monitoring System.

Peltier-driven chilling/heating dry bath

Torrey Pines Scientific has announced its EchoTherm Model IC20XR compact Peltier-driven, chilling/heating dry bath. It can freeze, chill or heat samples from –10°C to 110°C, and can be supplied with the broadest variety of precision-made aluminium sample blocks available.

Fingerprint-based POCT drug test

Intelligent Fingerprinting, the company behind the first portable fingerprint-based drug testing system, has launched a new drug screening test designed to meet the needs of drug rehabilitation organisations. The test is fingerprint-based, taking less than a minute to collect a fingerprint sweat samples onto the small drug screening cartridge and just ten minutes to screen for the opioid substitution drugs methadone and buprenorphine.

Monoclonal antibodies to Gardnerella

Gardnerella vaginalis is a major species present in bacterial vaginosis. It is a small Gram-variable, anaerobic coccobacillus. Overgrowth of this bacterium occurs due to an imbalance of normal vaginal flora which can result from prescription antibiotics. Microscopic evaluation often shows this bacterium associated with epithelial ‘clue cells’. Treatment with metronidazole or clindamycin is recommended.

Ceiling-mounted filtration units

The Purair SKY ceiling mounted filtration units are designed to protect laboratory personnel and the environment in areas where hazardous substances are handled. These units feature a dynamic filtration chamber with a sliding filter clamp that permits simple, quick filter changes.

First in vitro diagnostic test to target ROS1-positive lung cancers

Roche Diagnostics has launched the VENTANA ROS1 (SP384) antibody, the first and only in vitro diagnostic ROS1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay. The test detects the presence of ROS1 protein in tissue, and may be useful in identifying ROS1-positive lung cancer cases. Mutations of the ROS1 gene are present in some non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases and can help indicate which patients would respond with a targeted treatment.

Gold-standard automated antimicrobial susceptibility testing

A new benchtop automated reading and incubation system is now available in Europe for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST). The new instrument, from Thermo Scientific, provides microbiology laboratories with the accurate MIC results that clinicians need to confidently select an effective antibiotic for critically-ill patients while safeguarding future patient care through more successful antimicrobial stewardship.

Monoclonal antibodies to mycobacteria

ViroStat has just released two new MabyRab rabbit monoclonal antibodies that are specific for mycobacteria lipoarabinomannan (LAM). These new antibodies form a pair for the detection of LAM and are reactive with all strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis tested. They offer new tools for TB research and potential for rapid detection.
