Fast confocal microscopy

The fastest biological processes can now be captured at ultra-high resolution as a result of the launch of a new range of confocal laser scanner systems by Nikon Instruments. Two models are available: the fully automated A1 and the high specification A1R.

Ultraviolet spectrophotometry from Shimadzu

Shimadzu has introduced its latest UVVis spectrophotometer, the UV-1800, which functions either as a standalone instrument or can be PC-controlled with USB memory. UVProbe data processing software comes as standard so users can ædrag and dropÆ data from an optional USB memory stick to a PC.

Low-volume liquid handing

Anachem, the exclusive distributor for Gilson UK, has launched the new GX-281 analytical liquid handler, which is designed specifically for low-volume liquid handling and injection applications.

Complete guide to chromatography

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched its 2008û2009 Chromatography Columns and Consumables catalogue, which is a complete product and technical reference guide that consolidates the extensive collection of Thermo Scientific chromatography columns and consumables in one comprehensive resource.

Fully automated flame AA spectrometry

The novAA 300 fully automated flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, complete with an SFS6 injection module, is available from Analytik Jena UK. This versatile combination is ideally suited to small sample volumes, samples with high acid content or a difficult background matrix, and gives accurate and reproducible analytical results.

Chips for allergy diagnosis

PolyCheck chips from JRBiomedical are a quick, simple and low-cost range of screening panels for the measurement of allergen-specific IgE.

Genomic analysis of formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue

Qiagen has launched a new product that supports the genomic analysis of fixed tissue samples. The REPLI-g FFPE kit, the latest development in QiagenÆs whole-genome amplification portfolio, eliminates problems associated with DNA fragmentation and damage caused by formalin fixation.

Testing for a range of specific proteins

Randox has introduced a range of 25 liquid and ready-to-use protein assays, which are manufactured to meet high performance specifications. The assays have wide ranges, excellent precision and long shelf lives.

Freedom EVOware 2.1 software released by Tecan

Tecan has launched the latest version of its easy-to-use, intuitive Freedom EVOware software, designed to control and maximise the performance of the Freedom EVO series of liquid-handling platforms. Freedom EVOware version 2.1 contains many new features that offer substantial improvements in throughput and operating speed, userfriendliness and data management.

Non-warping PCR SuperPlates

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched a new range of single-shot moulded ultrarigid polypropylene 96-well polymerase chain reaction (PCR) plates, which eliminate the disruption to workflow caused by warped plates.

Innovative next-generation imaging and analysis system

Syngene has introduced a new version of the G:BOX Chemi XT16 automated chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging and analysis system. It features many innovations to make it the most sensitive and flexible system available in its class.

Phase contrast images without the annulus

High-resolution phase contrast and fluorescence imaging is now possible using the same objective, thanks to the special external phase contrast system on NikonÆs new Ti series inverted microscopes. Furthermore, this flexibility is now achieved with maximum light transmission.

Accelerated DNA data analysis

Applied Biosystems has launched the GeneMapper ID-X software application to automate routine forensic DNA analysis. The suite of integrated software tools makes analysis more efficient by pinpointing specific samples that require further analysis.

Reagents for natural killer cell studies

Beckman Coulter has introduced two new IOTest reagents, Anti-NTB-A-PE and CD226 (DNAM-1)-PE. Both are monoclonal antibodies to cell surface receptors for natural killer (NK) cell studies, which provide important information in disease research. These new flow cytometry reagents are compatible with Beckman CoulterÆs FC 500 series and Cell Lab Quanta SC systems, as well as with other instrument platforms.

Early diagnosis of RA

The Binding SiteÆs new, highly specific and sensitive secondgeneration anti-CCP2 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit is the latest addition to the companyÆs comprehensive range of autoimmune BINDAZYME assays.

Introducing... the colour orange

Invitrogen has launched a new colour for its Molecular Probes Qdot fluorescent label product lines. Qdot 625 nanocrystal fluorescent label can be seen as orange and fills an important spectral gap. In addition, Qdot 625 glows more brightly than longer wavelength Qdots.

Self-adhesive label products

StickyBobs is the self-adhesive label specialist. It can offer quality PCL office labels for laser and ink jet printers in a wide variety of sizes, colours and adhesives. æDocuments enclosedÆ wallets, tags, postage/franking labels, thermal transfer ribbons and antimicrobial laminating films are all available.

Automated nucleic acid purification

The epMotion from Eppendorf is the only open, automated liquid-handling system with pretested, ready-to-go methods for automated nucleic acid purification. Intensive collaboration between Eppendorf and five major vendors of nucleic acid purification chemistries has resulted in this development in automated protocols.

Flexible digital microscopy

The wide variety of high-performance, easy-touse digital camera systems from Olympus offers users the solution to any imaging application. Each Olympus camera system has been integrated with state-of-the-art technologies that allow users to achieve excellent image quality as seen through the microscope eyepieces.

Intelligent label printer

The Brady IP series printer system is a revolutionary thermal transfer printing system that safeguards against illegible or impermanent labelling. It will have real benefits in any multidisciplinary laboratory or medical application that requires positive sample identification and traceability, and where a variety of procedures is in use.
