IBMS publishes 2022 Annual Report

The Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) has published its 2022 Annual Report, reflecting on the support it is providing its members and how it is using its channels to raise awareness of biomedical science.

Titled Using our past to develop our future, it looks at the progress made in the first year of the Council’s ambitious five-year strategy. The report highlights the launch of a strategic research group to commission studies that demonstrate the value of biomedical science at a time when our workforce is feeling the pressure of the NHS backlog and the cost-of-living crisis.

The report focuses on how the IBMS has continued to build on the increased recognition of the skills and expertise of biomedical scientists to make sure the profession is supported by the UK’s governments across the four nations. It also outlines how the Institute has responded to calls for evidence and consultations and has worked more closely with sister organisations on common policy issues, issuing joint statements with The Royal College of Pathologists and The Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine.

Other highlights include:

  • Launch of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group
  • Support of Ukrainian biomedical scientists
  • 100 years of women in the IBMS
  • Flying the flag for Biomedical Science Day
  • Opening access to the British Journal of Biomedical Science.
