Real Diagnostics acquires SimplyTest

US-based Real Diagnostics, a clinical laboratory specialising in high-complexity molecular infectious disease and toxicology testing, has announced the acquisition of SimplyTest, a leading provider of saliva-based diagnostic tests for oral health.

SimplyTest's flagship product PERIO (pictured), uses a proprietary non-invasive swish-and-spit saliva sample to identify key periodontal pathogens, providing clinicians organism-level data to personalise therapy and monitor patient periodontal health over time.

Real Diagnostics offers high-complexity PCR-based (molecular) testing in urinary tract and sexually transmitted infections, vaginosis, respiratory and toxicology. Real Diagnostics combines micro-laboratory capabilities and molecular testing to provide phenotypic antibiotic resistance analysis, giving medical providers key insights into patient and pathogen specific antibiotic treatment options that optimise patient outcomes and antibiotic stewardship objectives. Adding the SimplyTest PERIO product extends the Real Diagnostics portfolio into oral health and broadens the range of provider types Real Diagnostic will now serve, including dental practices.

"We are thrilled to incorporate the visionary leadership and deeply talented team at SimplyTest, whose commitment to innovation has redefined industry standards and enhances our mission of humanising healthcare," said Cary Breese, CEO, Real Diagnostics. "The natural affinity between our operations enables us to seamlessly integrate the SimplyTest PERIO product into our best-in-class provider service model and begin immediately serving dental practices with the most advanced diagnostic tools available to improve patient health outcomes."

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Real Diagnostics is a portfolio company of HCAP Partners, a California-based private equity firm and nationally recognised impact investor.
