Capillary columns for biomarker research
Phenomenex has added six new offerings to its Onyx monolithic HPLC column line, including a 150 x 0.05 mm ID choice for proteomics research. This column is optimised for the low-flow-rate systems commonly used for LC/MS proteomics analysis and delivers high sensitivity for biomarker discovery.
Ergonomic pipette calibration
In response to international guidelines and customer requirements, weighing specialist Mettler Toledo has developed an integrated 100 mL evaporation trap for use with its XP and XS balance ranges.
Chromatography software and plates aid screening and workflow
GE Healthcare has extended its range of PreDictor 96-well plates for high-throughput process development (HTPD) and parallel screening of chromatographic conditions with new Assist software and additional prefilled 96-well plates.
Three-day service for fungal pneumonia
Lab21 is expanding its clinical diagnostics portfolio with the introduction of a new service to identify the two most common causes of fungal pneumonia. The CE-marked FXGTM:RESP (ASP+) test, developed by UK diagnostics company Myconostica, will identify infections caused by Aspergillus and Pneumocystis, which account for over 95% of cases of fungal pneumonia and could radically alter the diagnosis of fungal disease.
Rapid DNA, RNA and protein isolation
GE Healthcare has introduced illustra triplePrep, a kit for the rapid and simultaneous isolation of genomic DNA, RNA and total denatured protein from a single undivided sample in less than one hour.
High-resolution oligonucleotide arrays
Oxford Gene Technology (OGT) has launched the latest versions of its CytoSure family of high-resolution oligonucleotide arrays, offering even more coverage than before for cytogenetic syndromes and accurate whole genome aberration detection.
Faster detection of tuberculosis
The Primo Star iLED fluorescence microscope from Carl Zeiss detects tuberculosis (TB) pathogens four times faster and with 10% greater sensitivity than traditional brightfield microscopes, while offering a rugged, inexpensive and energy-efficient format. Key to the performance is the integration of an energy saving light-emitting diode (LED) light source with the high-quality Zeiss optics.
Plate of the month
Thermo Fisher Scientific is marking the second century of man-made plastics by offering valuable ways to trial Thermo Scientific ABgene PCR and QPCR plates through a Plate of the Month initiative.
Help in the season of respiratory infections
Now that winter has arrived and we find ourselves faced with the season of respiratory infections, Quest Biomedical can offer products that can help to diagnose these particular diseases very effectively.
Tests for influenza virus types A and B
Oxoid offers a range of diagnostic tools for the detection of respiratory disease caused by influenza virus types A and B. The Xpect Flu A&B test (pictured) detects and differentiates influenza types A and B directly from nose and throat swabs, and provides a clearly visible result that is easily interpreted in just 20 minutes. No specialised equipment or expertise is required.
Tumour HER2 status assay
Ipsogen has launched MapQuant Dx HER2 test. Developed on the MapQuant Dx microarray diagnostic platform, MapQuant Dx HER2 measures a set of HER2-amplified genes that correlate with HER2 protein expression. This new HER2 test provides reliable, intelligible and decisive information for pathologists, oncologists and patients.
Start-stop data loggers
Scientific research requiring environmental monitoring can now be achieved more easily with the new Dickson multi-feature digital display temperature and humidity data loggers with push-to-start and push-to-stop functions. A temperature-only version is also available.
Small but mighty laboratory printer
Lab Pal has been developed and tested specifically for laboratory conditions. This label printer is ideal for identifying samples permanently, legibly and accurately.
ELISA processor and validated assays
The DS2 is a state-of-the-art enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) processor with features often only found on high-capacity ELISA platforms.
Flow cytometry software
Using the latest version of VenturiOne flow cytometry data analysis software, up to 400 files can be analysed concurrently in less than 10 seconds. This speed is a direct result of the multiprocessor technology that lies at the heart of Applied Cytometry’s VenturiOne concept. In addition, VenturiOne v3 also produces significantly enhanced reports, generated from within the software.
Serum-free freezing medium
Anachem has introduced Bambanker, a serumfree medium designed to improve cell recovery rates. Bambanker enables long-term storage of cultured cells directly at –80°C and in liquid nitrogen. The medium can be used to freeze and preserve valuable and sensitive tumour or nontumour culture cells.
New medium for Cronobacter sakazakii
Microbiology specialist Lab M has launched the first product in its new range of dehydrated culture media for the isolation of Cronobacter sakazakii. Formerly known as Enterobacter sakazakii, this largely environmental organism has been associated with serious infections in newborns fed on infant formula milk.
Fully automated inoculating and streaking device
Don Whitley Scientific has launched ASpecT, a fully-automated inoculating and streaking device. The system processes liquid samples efficiently for microbiological analysis using up to nine types of culture media simultaneously.
High-quality pure water
Millipore has announced the availability of the new Elix Advantage water purification system, which provides highquality pure water from the tap. Featuring Millipore’s patented Elix electrodeionisation technology, coupled with a ‘green’ design philosophy, the Elix Advantage system offers users the best in pure water, quality and convenience.
C. difficile: the complete picture
Inverness Medical has introduced its new TECHLAB C. DIFF QUIK CHEK COMPLETE rapid test as an in vitro diagnostic aid for Clostridium difficileassociated disease (CDAD).
