Dual-channel wireless temperature monitoring

Signatrol has launched a new dual-temperature transmitter to its wireless SpYdaq temperature and humidity monitoring system that enables users to monitor temperature at two locations in close proximity (eg refrigerators), reducing costs and making it particularly suitable for blood storage applications.

Mitragynine ELISA: detecting the designer drug Kratom

Kratom is a designer drug originating from Mitragyna speciosa, an uncontrolled plant found in South East Asia. The designer drug has gained significant popularity in recent years due to its widespread availability on the internet and in head shops. It is marketed as a way to combat fatigue, pain and depression. The new enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), developed by Randox Toxicology, is the first immunoassay drug test for Kratom, providing a rapid solution for the detection of mitragynine and its metabolites.

Ultraviolet workstations: view, analyse and photograph

The Spectroline CL-150 series ultraviolet (UV) enable laboratory personnel to view, analyse and photograph fluorescent samples with epi-illumination and transillumination light sources. A removable bottom panel allows either unit to be placed directly over the transilluminator. The 25-W white light bulb in the cabinet provides visible illumination for easy sample preparation.

Light-guide increases LED functionality

CoolLED’s single-wavelength pE-100 is now available in several different configurations so that the user can select the optimal light delivery to the sample. The pE-100 can be configured with a fixed 3-mm liquid light-guide, and also one metre and three metre long light-guides can be specified.

Customised solid-phase extraction

Phenomenex has announced a new program to replace traditional method development posters that adorn laboratory walls. Distributed as a helpful tool by many manufacturers, these posters offered a starting point for researchers but added to laboratory clutter.

Mid-volume clinical chemistry testing

Providing high-quality testing on a compact and easy-to-use clinical chemistry analyser, the RX daytona plus from Randox ensures superior performance in the laboratory. This bench-top, fully automated, random-access clinical chemistry analyser allows real cost savings through consolidation of routine and specialised testing on one platform.

Cost-effective and reliable temperature control

West Control Solutions can provide a range of exceptionally durable temperature controllers that deliver long service even in the most demanding applications. The CAL range of controllers has been designed as an easy-to-use, low-cost option for regulating temperature in a variety of applications.

Improved lower-volume POC critical care testing

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics has released the RAPIDLab 348EX blood gas system, the latest solution in its blood gas testing portfolio in the UK. The RAPIDLab 348EX builds on Siemens proven technology and offers enhanced features to deliver reliable critical care testing that is economical, especially for lower-volume testing sites.

Point-of-care troponin T testing

Forth Valley Royal Hospital has been able to reduce lengths of stay and ward admissions for patients presenting with chest pain, as well as ensuring rapid referral for patients with positive findings, through the introduction of a Chest Pain Assessment Unit (CPAU). This offers streamlined patient care and rapid access to diagnostic testing, including troponin T testing, using the Roche cobas h 232point- of-care (POC) cardiac marker system.

Fixed correlated colour temperature with LEDs

CoolLED’s light-emitting diode (LED) technology now offers an attractive alternative to the halogen lamps previously used for broad-spectrum illumination through the diascopic (transmitted) port of a microscope.

Infinite reader applications

Tecan has developed an AlphaScreen module for its popular Infinite F200 PRO ultimode reader, providing customers with a cost-effective solution for AlphaScreen and AlphaLISA assays.

Live-cell incubator system

Warner Instruments has introduced the Okolab Bold Line stage-top incubator system for live-cell imaging. Features include longitudinal studies of cell cultures, easy-to-use touchscreen interface, and superior performance with operational flexibility.

Positive-displacement dispensing

Eppendorf has launched Combitips advanced, which offer safe, accurate dispensing of liquids by positive displacement. Features include colour coding for easy size recognition, elongated tips to empty all standard laboratory tubes completely, a dispenser box with chute, and an additional purity grade – Eppendorf PCR clean.

Vibrio enrichment medium meets ISO standards

With the introduction of its new Alkaline Saline Peptone Water (ISO), Lab M now provides a complete media offering for the enrichment and detection of Vibrio spp. from food and water samples.

Instantaneous imaging without a computer

Olympus has released a new standalone controller for the 5 megapixel DP26 camera. Using the controller, it is possible to view samples and capture images directly on a monitor screen with no need for a dedicated computer.

Filtration and contamination control equipment

The new Air Science Vent-Box ductless filtration system is designed to protect laboratory personnel from chemical vapours found inside standalone chemical safety cabinets.

Innovative spectroscopy solutions

BioDrop has launched a family of innovative micro-volume spectroscopy solutions with the introduction of BioDrop CUVETTE and BioDrop UV/Vis spectrophotometers. BioDrop uLite offers a special inbuilt sampling port for quick and accurate measurements down to a 0.5 uL sample volume. With no moving parts, this technology delivers exceptional path-length accuracy and therefore measurement accuracy.

Disposable dialysis plates

Ideal for analysis of free or unbound analytes such as free T4, free cortisol, free testosterone, or for protein-ligand binding studies, Harvard apparatus offers patented 96-well DispoEquilibrium Dialyzers that are US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) listed and compliant for in vitro diagnostic protocols.

Acute kidney injury POC testing

Argutus Medical, a developer of specialised organ injury tests, and a subsidiary of EKF Diagnostics, has introduced RenaStat, its new point-of-care (POC) test.RenaStat was specifically developed to detect the early onset of severe acute kidney injury (AKI) in critical care settings.

Interlaboratory data management program

Randox has launched a web-based inter-laboratory data management program, Acusera 24.7 Live Online, designed specifically to complement the Acusera range of third-party quality controls. It aims to improve the effectiveness of quality control processes within the clinical laboratory while also helping to interpret QC results. With Acusera 24.7, users have the ability to monitor analytical performance extensively and access peer group reports quickly and easily online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
